Chilean Bible Society “Hope for Chile”
• Bible Society, is distributing the Bible in the affected area.

It’s almost a month of an earthquake of 8.8 on the Richter scale and the Tsunami that impact Chile. Water, food and health care has begun to deliver, but the need to revive the spirit of the country is still pending.

Many churches in the affected area can not function properly in their damaged buildings. They are focus to assist the affected families of the congregation. Today the churches are not prepared to invest large financial resources in evangelism so the support of Chilean Bible Society is paramount.

The effort is great because Chilean Bible Society has been affected too.
After the earthquake the sales in the VI, VII and VIII region has stopped, and the rest of the country have dropped dramatically, impacting the budget. The central warehouse and other facilities were damaged and required immediate repairs, prior to the rains that could affect the biblical literature. Part of the effort we are doing for fix our situation will help us to deliver aid more appropriately.

Chilean Bible Society printed 50,000 treaties that encourage people to hope and refuge in God.

So far we have been working with the Salvation Army, Campus Crusade for Christ and church organizations to distribute biblical literature to earthquake victims.

Chronology of the disaster
27th February. An earthquake of 8.8 º Richter scale and a tsunami impact Chile.
27th February to today’s date. There have been over 300 aftershocks
4th March. Earthquake of 6.4º Richter scale
5th March. Earthquake of 6.6º Richter scale
11th March. Earthquake of 6.9º Richter scale
15th March. There was a blaclout affecting 80% of Chile’s population equivalent to 13.6 million unhabitants.
16th March. Earthquake of 6.7º Richter scale

Some numbers
30,000 million dollars needed to rebuild Chile.
256 thousand homes were severely affected.
72 thousand homes were destroyed.
40 thousand schools have structural damage
2,700 million dollars are needed to rebuild hospitals (17 hospitals are out of service, 8 with structural damages and 54 require repairs)
